ABOUT CONCURRENT
Steven Lewis and Doug Stratford first met in 1982 at the Ontario College of Art Off-Campus Studio located in Florence, Italy, where they shared a small apartment with two other aspiring art students. From this experience, a friendship formed, and a mutual respect arose, one that has lasted the intervening years, despite long periods of separation.
Over those four decades, both Steven and Doug continued to paint, following their own individual artistic paths, but they remained pals, united forever by their shared Italian cultural experience.
Although their present artistic interests may appear on the surface to have diverged, they both feel that their work relates to, and compliments, one another nonetheless. This belief stems, first, from their shared history and abiding friendship and, second, from their long-lasting commitment to painting directly and authentically from life.
These paintings are the tangible evidence of those enduring threads, which happily appear now like strands that have been woven together through most of Steven and Doug’s lives.
