ABOUT DECONSTRUCTED NATURE
Deconstructed Nature is a group show featuring three contemporary landscape artists, sharing their interpretations of nature through various mediums.
Cindy Lam works with paper as a primary medium, combining inks and stitching to create abstract and representational landscapes. Natasha Lehman, an intuitive painter, uses a heightened color palette in oil paint to portray Canadian landscape scenes. Kareen’s mixed media work, of acrylic paint, paper, and other mediums, creates textured images of botanicals, trees, and water landscapes.
All three artists reflect on the significance of being in nature for the development of their work.
For Cindy, the slow process of paper-making contrasts with a highly digitalized world, and being in nature offers a reprieve from this frenetic pace. Natasha explores art as a form of healing and grounding, similar to the experience of being in nature. Kareen aims for the viewer to feel the sense of joy and beauty found in nature created by her work.
In addition to their individual pieces (approximately 5 to 6 each and 10 to 15 total), the artists created a collaborative piece consisting of three 18×24 inch sheets of paper. Each artist began with an 18×24 inch sheet, worked on it, then passed to the next artist, until each had contributed. They incorporated elements such as paper collage, stitching, cutouts, spray paint, and acrylics while engaging with and responding to the previous contributions.
This collaborative work highlights the individual strengths of each artist and embodies their collective dialogue and shared inspiration. Exhibit runs from 16th to 27th OF October. Opening weekend is 19th-20th of October. Artists will be on site.
