ABOUT POSTCARD FROM HOME

This exploration of identity, home, and pride is both personal and universal. The imagery that has helped shaped me is also what connects us – the streetcars and subways where we travel together; and the stamps we use to stay connected through the mail. The colours of Pride that unite us as a community; and props from theatres where we laugh together in the dark.

Layered hand cut paper artworks, inspired by the Japanese art of kirie, present a tactile view of the world around us; a relief from the detachment of our digital age.

A cheeky set of poems using only Toronto subway station names invites a queer perspective on the city that we see every day.

Folded and hand cut paper installations using the colours of Pride explore the dynamic energy of moiré patterns and optical illusions that can emerge when we engage with simple geometry.

And just for fun – pop-up props created for the Shaw Festival celebrate the wonder and awe that we can find in simple things.
