ABOUT UPCYCLED OBSOLESCENCE
Sara was born an artist. With degrees in both Visual Arts and Interior Design, she served as the curator/artistic director of Petroff Gallery for over 20 years, selling it in 2013 the gallery to allow time to pursue her own studio art practice.
Drawn to rescuing traces of time on memory-filled papers, these experiential mixed media sculptural collages reframe obsolete ephemera in a new light, Sara breathes new life into old items, repurposing & reinvesting them with new meaning & narratives.
These works draw upon her experience in and love of art history, calligraphy, sculpture, interior design, construction and satisfy this need to simultaneously hang onto and let go of the past. These are multi-media narratives of lives lived, sculpted from papers, mixed with history and tempered with memory.
Often in the form of clothing, these are never intended as historical costume, but rather to serve as an intimate & familiar space, into which the viewer brings forward their own memories.
Featured Artists: Sara Petroff.
